How We Compare Apps
The MirrorMii blog compares apps and games: alternatives to an app you're leaving, or games like one you miss. Here's how we put those comparisons together, so you can decide how far to trust them.
MirrorMii is our own product
We make MirrorMii, and it appears in these comparisons. Every comparison article says so near the top, before the comparison starts, and covers MirrorMii in a section of its own, so you know when we're describing our own product. Screenshots of other apps come from their public store listings. Pictures of MirrorMii are our own artwork.
Which apps we include
Each comparison starts from a reader's question: the app you're leaving, the game you miss, or the part of your day you'd rather not log. We include apps that answer that question in different ways, and usually the app you're coming from as well, because staying can be the right choice.
An app has to be available on the platforms the article covers when we check it. Apps that have shut down or left the store are mentioned only to say so. Lists are grouped by the reason you're looking, not by a score.
What we compare, and where we check it
Depending on the question, we compare:
- Features: what you do each day, how much setup it takes, and extras such as friends, offline play or a watch app.
- A missed day: the rules each app states for skipping a day or taking a break. If an app doesn't say, we write that it doesn't say instead of guessing.
- Price: what's free, what costs extra, one-time or subscription, and any membership it needs, such as Apple Arcade or Netflix. Prices are in US dollars from US store pages, checked on the date the article shows, for example "Prices checked October 14, 2026."
- Platforms: where you can get it, from the store pages and the developer's own site.
- Ads, in-app purchases and age labels: as each store listing shows them.
- Your data: where your progress is stored, whether you can export or back it up, and what the developer discloses, such as how it uses AI.
Our main sources are the app's store listing, the developer's website and announcements, and reviews we name. Store pages can lag behind an app, so when a developer has announced a change, we go with the announcement and say so. Counts, like how many items a game has, come from the developer unless we name another source. When we cite research, we link the study and don't treat it as proof that a particular app works. We don't claim that any app, ours included, will change your habits or how you feel.
How often we recheck
We recheck each comparison at least every six months, and sooner when an app changes its price or rules or a reader tells us something has changed. Each recheck updates the article's "Prices checked" date. Articles without that date were written before we started dating our checks.
Prices change and can differ by country or during a sale, so check your own store before you buy.
Spotted a mistake?
Email contact@mirrormii.ai with the article's link and what you found. App makers can use the same address. We check each report against the store listing or the developer's own information, and if we got something wrong, we fix the article. When we fix a mistake, the article shows the date it was updated and a short note at the end saying what we changed.
