Habitica Alternatives, Sorted by Why You're Leaving

MirrorMii

Too punishing, too much setup, too quiet since the guilds closed, or never cozy enough. Start with your reason.

You've opened the folder with Habitica in it, then closed it again. You liked having a pixel hero. You're less sure you want to carry your whole to-do list into another game.

Habitica alternatives replace different parts of it. Finch, Habbie and Otto keep task-based play; Fabulous supplies guided routines. Pokémon Sleep covers sleep sessions and Forest covers focus. Neko Atsume 2 and Cozy Grove offer cozy play without turning your chores into quests. Start by deciding whether you still want a task list.

We make MirrorMii, a cozy game for people who want daily-life play without writing their day into a task list. That is a different switching reason from wanting gentler Dailies. Our section below describes its unreleased next version, 2.0.

What if the missed days are what's wearing you down?

Miss a Daily in Habitica and your hero loses health. At zero, you lose a level, all your Gold and a piece of gear. That is a clear reason to look for a different missed-day rule.

In a study published in 2009, Phillippa Lally's team at University College London followed 96 people building a daily habit for twelve weeks. Missing one opportunity didn't materially affect habit formation. That result concerns the habit, separately from the app's penalty.

Finch gives you a small bird that grows as you tick off gentle goals, then wanders off on adventures and comes home with stories. Miss a day and you can mend its day count with Rainbow Stones or a free repair you earn every three adventures. Pause Mode freezes it while you rest.

Habbie is a pixel pet with a 90s feel. Hit your goal and it leaves you a gift. Miss it and you come home to a mess to tidy up, and Rest Mode lets it take a break when you do. Its latest listed update is about a year old. The listing establishes those features, but it doesn't tell us how actively the app is maintained.

Pick Finch if you want a count you can mend, and Habbie if a little mess on the floor is the only consequence you can stand.

What if setting it all up feels like a second job?

Habitica's Habits, Dailies and To Do's are yours to create and schedule. These two narrow what you set up.

Fabulous starts you on a guided morning routine and builds from there, with coaching series, journaling and short workouts. You're following a supplied routine, so it fits a reader who wants supplied guidance.

Pokémon Sleep deals with a single activity: a sleep session you start yourself. You put your phone by your pillow and go to sleep, and by morning a crowd of sleepy Pokémon has gathered, depending on how you slept. Forgot to start it? You can add the night by hand up to 30 hours later, but you won't get the missed sleep research. It doesn't replace Habitica's chores or work tasks.

A guided routine and a sleep game answer different needs. Neither is a place to import your old Dailies.

Where did everyone go?

Habitica closed the Tavern and Guilds in 2023, and the big shared rooms went quiet. Parties survived with their own chat, and a party still holds up to 30 people, so if your friends are still around, you might not need to leave at all.

In a 2006 paper in Motivation and Emotion, Richard Ryan and colleagues at the University of Rochester found that autonomy, competence and connection were associated with enjoyment and future play. The study didn't compare these apps or show that a focus session replaces a public community.

Forest offers shared focus sessions with friends. A tree grows while you stay off your phone. Leave early and you lose that tree.

A shared session gives you something to do together. It isn't a replacement for Habitica's former public chat rooms.

What if you just want something cozier?

Otto keeps your to-do list and puts a small otter on top of it. Finish tasks and Otto grows, heads out exploring and wears the outfits you earn.

Neko Atsume 2 works in two steps. You set out snacks and toys, close the app, and come back later to see which cats wandered into your yard. There are more than 40 of them, and Going Out lets you visit other players' yards too.

Miss the game part most? Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit is a proper island life sim where you befriend ghostly spirit bears, fish, cook and decorate a campsite. It needs a Netflix membership, and there are more like it in games like Habitica.

| App | Main action | Important limit | |-|-|-| | Finch | Tick off self-care goals | A missed day still breaks a repairable count | | Habbie | Complete habits with a pet | A missed goal leaves a mess; Rest Mode pauses it | | Fabulous | Follow guided routines | Guidance still asks you to do the actions | | Pokémon Sleep | Start a sleep session | Sleep-specific; manual entries miss sleep research | | Forest | Focus in shared sessions | Early exit costs the tree; not a public chat room | | Otto | Complete tasks with an otter | Subscription after trial; missed-day rule not described | | Neko Atsume 2 | Set out food and toys for cats | Doesn't track your real tasks | | Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit | Play an island life sim | Requires Netflix; doesn't track your real tasks |

Should you stay with Habitica after all?

If your own missed Dailies are the issue, Pause Damage stops that health loss. Party misses during a boss quest can still hurt you. A missed day in Habitica covers the rules; is Habitica worth it weighs the ongoing work.

Leaving anyway? The Site Data tab in Settings on the Habitica website exports your tasks, so you can bring over only the few that still matter. Keep the export before changing apps.

Where does MirrorMii fit?

Leaving the list behind is a different wish from finding a new place to keep it. MirrorMii is a cozy game, and its next version, 2.0, is not out yet.

Miia chooses a garden path between her studio and reading terrace with Genii nearby

In 2.0, Genii is the fairy-godmother host of the island. You snap something from your day, hand what you find to her and decide where to use your fragments. The Life Tree grows with your level and your island; what you find also becomes outfits and decor for Miia.

Miia is your digital twin, a reflection of you who lives her own life. In 2.0, a new piece of furniture can change what she does at home. You set the conditions, then read what she makes of them in her diary. You don't rewrite the entry because your own Tuesday went differently.

In 2.0, the Bank keeps your unspent fragments safe while you're away, and finished quests stay finished. You can return to the room you were curious about without repairing a missed-day count.

FAQ

Will these apps import my Habitica tasks?

Don't assume an export will transfer straight into another app. Habitica lets you export task data from the Site Data tab in its website settings, but an export isn't a transfer into another app. Sleep sessions, focus sessions and standalone cozy games also have no equivalent to your old Dailies.

Is there a free Habitica alternative without a subscription?

All eight have free App Store downloads. Download price and access are different: Cozy Grove: Camp Spirit requires a Netflix membership. Several others offer paid extras, and Otto advertises a free trial followed by a subscription. A free download alone doesn't establish ongoing free use.

Are these Habitica alternatives on iPhone?

Yes. Every app here has an App Store page, and the screenshots above come straight from them. Check the paid extras before you get attached to a pet.
